Active Start:

Fees: $300 per team January 3 & 4, 2026

· Earliest start: 9:30 am Saturday, done by 7:45 pm

· Sunday start: 9:30 am, off the ice by 4:15 pm

 

U10 Step 1, U10 Step 2

Fees: $500 per team January 4 & 5, 2026

· Earliest start: 9:30 am Saturday, done by 7:45 pm

· Sunday start: 9:30 am, off the ice by 4:15 pm

 

Divisions & Games

· Active Start: 4 teams · 3 games guaranteed

· Step 1: 12 teams · 4 games guaranteed

· Step 2: 12 teams · 4 games guaranteed

 

Tournament Rules

General Rules

· The Official Rules of Ringette Alberta (RAB) apply FIRST.

· The Official Rules of Ringette Canada will apply.

· All bench staff must be certified as per Ringette Alberta guidelines.

· All players must be registered with Ringette Alberta, or their respective provincial association.

· Fair Play will be stressed throughout the tournament.

· All Divisions - 3 goal max per player per game.

Game Procedures

· All teams should be ready to go on the ice five (5) minutes before game time.

· The referee will blow the whistle at scheduled game start time.

o Teams not on ice within two (2) minutes risk forfeiting the game.

o Teams not on the ice 5 minutes after scheduled start will forfeit the game.

o If forfeited, score will be recorded as 7-0 on the game sheet.

o Game will still be played as an exhibition.

· In case of a conflict in colour, where both teams have 2 sets of jerseys, the visiting team must change their uniform.

· Coaches are responsible for their players' parents and/or guests.

o Any abuse of officials, inappropriate comments from stands, or derogatory comments about officials or players will not be tolerated.

o Failure to comply will result in ejection from the facility and potentially the tournament.

· Teams MUST declare affiliated players on game sheets by indicating (AP or AG).

o It is the responsibility of the team to ensure that The Mini Mustang Tournament PLAYER AFFILIATION RULES are followed.

· For all divisions, running time may be used at the discretion of the referee due to time constraints.

o If only five (5) minutes remain in an assigned time slot, the time clock will be reset to 5 minutes running time.

o There will be a flood between all games.

o Depending on time/schedule, games may be shortened at referee’s discretion.

 

Division Formats

Active Start

· Games will be half ice, 3 vs 3.

· Same format and rules as U10 Step 1 & 2.

 

U10 Step 1 & 2

· Games will be run on half ice, 3 vs 3.

· 2 × 24-minute periods of half ice play (running time).

· 90-second buzzer for player changes (play continues - no stoppage).

· 1-minute break between periods.

· If overtime occurs, games may be shortened to stay on schedule.

· Maximum 1 coach per team may be on ice:

o Must wear skates & CSA-approved helmet.

o Cannot have a stick.

o Must stay near boards and out of play area.

· Ringette Alberta Guidelines will be followed.

· All games will have a referee to facilitate safe and continuous play.

 

For Step 1 & 2 infractions

· Officials may blow play down and turn over the ring.

· Player may be returned to bench (instead of penalty box).

· Another player may take their place on ice.

 

Penalties & Discipline

· Any TEAM accumulating MORE THAN 30 penalty minutes in any ONE GAME ? Head coach or acting coach suspended for next tournament game. (No grievances accepted).

· A MATCH penalty ? Suspension from all subsequent tournament games.

· A MISCONDUCT penalty (player, coach, or team official) ? Sit out subsequent game, possibly remainder of tournament at discretion of Grievance Committee.

o A second misconduct penalty = automatic ejection from tournament.

 

Protests

· Teams wishing to file a protest must:

o Submit request in writing.

o Include $200 cash to the Tournament Committee.

· Notification must be received within 30 minutes of the incident.

· Grievance Committee will review protests.

o If upheld, $200 will be refunded.

· No protests regarding referee judgment will be accepted.

· The referee’s decision is final.

 

PLAYER AFFILIATION RULES

For ALL Teams

· Teams are required to strike names of players not participating from game sheet.

· Affiliate(s) must have their name & jersey number written on the game sheet, followed by (AP or AG).

· Players ‘dressed’ and listed on the game sheet shall be:

o Minimum: 7 players

o Maximum: 5 affiliate players

o Maximum: 12 players (if only affiliates are skaters)

o Maximum: 13 players (if affiliates are skaters + goalie)

o Maximum: 18 players (if affiliate is goalie only)

o Maximum: 18 players (if no affiliates used)

 

For ALBERTA Teams

· Player affiliation as per Ringette Alberta ‘Player Affiliation Policy’.

· Affiliate players must be registered on Team Registration Form (TRF).

 

OVERAGE PLAYERS

· Overage players allowed only if registered on TRF.

· Max 3 overage players per team roster.

· Alberta Teams with 4+ overage players must provide Ringette Alberta permission document submitted at season start.

· Out-of-Province Teams with 4+ overage players must contact The Mini Ed Tournament Director prior to applying.

 

TOURNAMENT GAME TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE

Round Robin Games

· Win = 2 points

· Tie = 1 point

· Loss = 0 points

· Teams ranked by total points after round robin.

 

Medal Games

· If tied at end of regulation:

1. 5-minute sudden-death overtime (stop time).

§ Possession decided by coin toss (home team calls).

2. If still tied ? shootout.

§ 3 players per team selected.

§ Each shoots once.

3. If still tied ? sudden-death shootout.

§ Remainder of team participates until a winner is determined.

§ First 3 shooters cannot go again until all others have shot (goalies excluded).

Additional Rules

· Penalties assessed in regulation or overtime carry over.

· Each team entitled to ONE additional 30-second timeout in overtime.

 

TEAM STANDINGS TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE

NOTE: Regardless of game score, only a SEVEN GOAL DIFFERENCE will be credited.

When two or more teams are tied after round robin:

1. Winner of more games between tied teams.

2. Highest goal differential (GF-GA) in games between tied teams.

3. Fewest goals against in games between tied teams.

4. Highest goal differential in all round robin games.

5. Fewest goals against in all round robin games.

6. Fewest total penalty minutes in all round robin games.

7. Coin toss.
